A ₹300 crore land deal in Pune involving Parth Pawar was cancelled after officials found the land was government property, prompting a formal probe.
In Mumbai on Friday, Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said his son Parth and his business partner were unaware that the Pune land parcel their company bought belonged to the government, and the ₹300 crore deal has been cancelled.
A government-appointed panel led by ACS Vikas Kharge will probe the matter and file a report within a month. The registration of the documents has been cancelled, and affidavits confirming the cancellation were submitted to authorities, Pawar said, adding that no money had changed hands.
He stressed that the land is government property and cannot be sold, and that Parth and his partner were not pressured to transfer the land. The inquiry will reveal how the registration was done and who is responsible.
The deal has drawn attention because industry watchers put the market value in the ₹1,600-1,800 crore range, making the ₹300 crore sale look unusual. The FIR initially named three individuals who signed documents at the registrar’s office, but Parth Pawar was not named in the FIR, according to Pawar.
Pawar said the probe will uncover the full facts and that if irregularities are found in any other land deals involving relatives, they should be scrapped and action taken. Fresh developments include reports of a new FIR against Parth Pawar's business partner and the suspension of a revenue official in connection with the case, underscoring continuing scrutiny over land deals.
