Ranbir's Skincare Confession: Partner's Nightmare or Wellness Win?
Ranbir Kapoor admits to skipping basic skincare like moisturizer and sunscreen, leading to his wife Alia Bhatt's constant concern. Is celebrity wellness enough, or are basics non-negotiable?
Let's talk about a skincare confession that's got everyone buzzing. You might have heard about Ranbir Kapoor's candid admission: he's never touched a moisturizer or sunscreen. His wife, Alia Bhatt, reportedly 'shouts' at him about it, and frankly, who can blame her?
It's a window into a common misconception. Many believe that if you're into high-tech wellness - think cold plunges, infrared saunas, even Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) - you're set. Ranbir himself is “majorly into wellness and recovery routines,” but he also calls "facials a red flag" for skin.
While these advanced routines are fantastic for overall health, they are not a substitute for fundamental skin protection. Dr. Shareefa Chause, a dermatologist, puts it plainly: “Sunscreen and moisturiser serve specific purposes that cold plunges or oxygen-based therapies cannot replace.” This is crucial. Sunscreen shields against UV radiation, preventing tanning, pigmentation, premature aging, and even skin cancers.
Moisturizer, on the other hand, supports your skin barrier, locking in hydration and preventing water loss.
Skipping these basics can have long-term consequences. Dr. Shweta Nakhawa, another consultant dermatologist, reminds us that even during routine outdoor activities like commuting, UV radiation can impact our skin. She emphasizes that
a broad-spectrum sunscreen with adequate SPF, applied properly and reapplied when required, is a more reliable approach than judging sun exposure by how strong the sunlight feels.
What about those trendy cold plunges? They might temporarily reduce puffiness, but don't mistake that for a lasting skincare benefit. In fact, very cold water can even irritate sensitive skin.
And while HBOT has legitimate medical uses,
It is not a substitute for basic measures such as sun protection, adequate sleep, nutrition and appropriate skincare,
notes Dr.
Nakhawa.
The takeaway is simple: don't let celebrity routines overshadow common sense. A healthy, protected complexion starts with the basics. Cleanse gently, moisturize for your skin type, and apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily.
Combine that with a balanced diet, good sleep, and physical activity, and you're truly investing in your skin's future.
After all, skincare should be personalized, not blindly copied from anyone, even a superstar.
