Accused of Beheading Wife, Assam Man Dies After Jumping from Police Vehicle

Ramanuj Goswami, the man accused of the horrific beheading of his wife, Riya Talukdar, has died after an attempt to escape from police custody. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday as he was being transported to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Police reported that Goswami jumped out of the moving police vehicle. He subsequently rolled down a hilly terrain and sustained a severe head injury upon impact with a solid object. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead upon arrival at GMCH at approximately 3:41 a.m.

Hospital authorities confirmed he was brought in as a traffic accident victim and noted no bullet wounds on his body.

The exact cause of death is yet to be officially ascertained.

Goswami had surrendered to authorities last week, confessing to the gruesome murder of his wife. He claimed to have acted in a fit of rage, suspecting his wife of an extra-marital affair. The shocking discovery of Riya Talukdar's severed head, found in a polythene bag inside a refrigerator, had sent shockwaves through the community.

The couple had been married for less than a year.

Hailing from Dhubri district, Goswami was being held after his confession. Reports also indicate he had previously expressed no remorse for his actions and had even threatened another individual.

It has also come to light that Goswami had a history of substance abuse and had previously undergone treatment.

Riya Talukdar was a native of Guwahati.

This tragic sequence of events brings a disturbing conclusion to a shocking case.
