New Kindles Land! Thinner, Lighter, & Colorful Ahead of 20th Anniversary!
Amazon unveils its new Kindle lineup, thinner, lighter, and with aluminum builds! Discover the base, Paperwhite, and Colorsoft models, plus new page-turn accessories. Get ready for a reading revolution!
Get ready, bookworms! Amazon is rolling out a completely revamped Kindle lineup, just in time for the e-reader's 20th anniversary in 2027. We're talking about a whole new family of devices that are thinner, lighter, and boast premium features, including aluminum builds for the first time.
The new range includes a 6-inch base Kindle, a 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite, and a 7-inch Kindle Colorsoft. For those who love extra perks, Signature Editions are available for the Paperwhite and Colorsoft, offering enhanced features. Plus, there are Kids versions across the entire lineup, complete with artist-designed cases, a year of Amazon's worry-free guarantee, and a year of Kids+ for endless ad-free reading.
One of the biggest game-changers is the option for an aluminum construction.
While the entry-level models still use plastic, you can upgrade to an all-aluminum model (made with 80 percent recycled aluminum) for a more robust and premium feel. These new Kindles are also incredibly sleek, measuring just 6.8 mm thin and shedding significant weight, the base Kindle is now 140 grams, and the Paperwhite and Colorsoft are 204 grams.
Amazon says the screens now open books 30 percent faster, and the higher pixel density makes text even sharper. Good news for sustainability: the new Kindles comply with the EU's battery regulations, making battery replacement easier. The Signature Editions take things up a notch with an ambient light sensor for automatic brightness adjustments and an accelerometer that allows you to turn the screen to landscape orientation.
They also feature a double-tap gesture for page-turning and pogo pins that work with Amazon's new $60 charging dock. And for those who still miss physical page-turn buttons, there's an $80 Page-Turn Cover that magnetically attaches and connects via the pogo pins. But don't fret if you don't want a new Kindle or a fancy cover; Amazon is also debuting the Kindle Click, a $35 Bluetooth accessory that lets you turn pages wirelessly with any Kindle.
The pricing reflects these new advancements. The base Kindle (plastic, 16GB, ads) starts at $150, while the aluminum version (32GB, no ads) is $190. The Paperwhite starts at $200, with its Signature Edition at $250.
The Colorsoft begins at $290, and its Signature Edition is $320. Kids Kindles start from $180.
You can grab the base Kindle, its aluminum version, and the Kids Kindle models today.
The Paperwhite and Colorsoft are available for preorder, with launches set for the end of October. This launch comes as Amazon's Kindle business is thriving, with double-digit growth over the last three years and 2025 marking the highest sales year in over a decade. A significant portion of buyers, 60-65 percent, are new to Kindle, with Gen Z, millennials, and Gen Alpha driving this impressive surge.
Despite the higher prices due to memory costs, the demand for e-readers is clearly soaring!
