The 33-year-old former Arsenal midfielder is currently facing seven counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in London, with alleged incidents occurring between 2020 and 2022. These charges led to him being denied entry to Canada last week, forcing him to miss Ghana's opening game against Panama in Toronto. Despite this, he was permitted to play in the United States for the England match.
Partey has vehemently denied all charges and is set to defend himself in a trial expected next summer. He reportedly told Canadian officials that he had never been arrested or charged with a crime. He shared his hopes of a competitive game, telling TV3 Ghana, “I’m really happy to see them again. I hope they’re going to bring their best and try to give us the opportunity to play against the best and try to compete and enjoy the game.” He emphasized a team-first approach, stating, “It’s not about personal achievement. We are going to play a game of football. We are 11 players, we are a team.” Partey spent five years with Arsenal, making 167 appearances, before moving to La Liga club Villarreal last summer.
