The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that no amount of finger pointing will obfuscate what it called Pakistan's 'horrific and systemic victimisation' of minorities of various faiths. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated the characterization of Pakistan's statements as a form of finger pointing, stressing that India's commitment to protecting all faiths remains unwavering. He stressed that Pakistan's portrayal of the situation in India does not change the facts on the ground and underscored India's constitutional safeguards for minority communities.
Pakistan's foreign ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi had described some incidents during the Christmas period as part of a broader concern over the targeting of religious minorities in India, including alleged home demolitions and lynching reports. In response, India highlighted what it described as Pakistan's own pattern of minority rights violations, urging the international community to consider both sides of the narrative rather than accepting one account at face value.
The exchange occurs amid reports of pre-Christmas vandalism in various Indian states, which Islamabad cited in its remarks. New Delhi, for its part, emphasized its secular framework and the ongoing legal protections for minorities, arguing that domestic actions cannot be used to validate external charges.
