Rs 1160 Cr Rice-Ethanol 'Scam': FCI Disputes Scale in MP! ππ
A massive Rs 1,160 Crore rice-ethanol 'scam' is under scrutiny in Madhya Pradesh! The FCI is disputing its scale even as 56 mills & 22 ethanol plants face investigation. Get the full story!
A massive alleged scam involving rice intended for ethanol production, estimated at a staggering Rs 1,160 crore, has rocked Madhya Pradesh. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) is currently disputing the scale of this alleged fraud, even as investigators delve deep into the intricate network of diversions.
The suspicion centers around government-allocated rice, meant for conversion into ethanol, which was allegedly siphoned off to private rice mills. These mills are then believed to have processed the diverted rice, which subsequently found its way back into government warehouses, masquerading as custom milled rice. This elaborate scheme has raised serious questions about oversight and accountability within the food supply chain.
The investigation has widened its net, bringing 56 rice mills and 22 ethanol plants under intense scrutiny. Authorities are working to establish the exact quantity of the nearly 5 lakh metric tonnes of government rice, originally earmarked for ethanol production, that was genuinely converted, versus how much was illicitly diverted through private channels.
Adding a layer of complexity to the unfolding scandal, the FCI has publicly stated that claims about the scam's magnitude are "factually incorrect." Interestingly, the corporation also pointed out that the alleged scam was initially detected by the government itself, suggesting an internal recognition of irregularities, even if the scale is debated. This ongoing probe aims to uncover the full extent of the alleged malpractices and bring those responsible to justice.
