Three police officers in North-West Delhi's Mukundpur area were brutally attacked on Friday afternoon, sustaining injuries after a group, including the owner of an impounded motorcycle, allegedly threw chilli powder in their eyes and assaulted them with bricks and sticks. The shocking incident unfolded after the officers had seized a motorcycle lacking valid documents.
Head Constables Dinesh and Rajesh of Bhalswa Dairy police station were on routine patrol in Janta Vihar, Mukundpur, when they spotted the motorcycle. Following proper procedure, they impounded the vehicle under Section 66 of the Delhi Police (DP) Act due to a lack of valid paperwork. However, when they returned to their beat area around 3:30 pm, they were confronted by a furious group.
The confrontation quickly escalated. The attackers, which included the motorcycle owner and his family members, allegedly threw chilli powder directly into the eyes of the policemen. They then proceeded to assault the officers with bricks and wooden sticks. Head Constable Tinu, who arrived to provide assistance to his colleagues, was also caught in the violent outburst.
All three officers were injured in the assault. Head Constable Dinesh suffered a head injury, while Head Constable Rajesh and Tinu also sustained injuries. They were promptly given medical treatment and are now reported to be in stable condition.
Police have since apprehended a 17-year-old juvenile in connection with the attack. Authorities are now actively searching for the main absconding accused, identified as Sunil, also known as Pankaj. Officials state that Sunil is a history-sheeter in the area, with five previous criminal cases registered against him, including two under the NDPS Act and other heinous offences. Search operations are currently underway to trace and arrest him and others involved in this brazen act against law enforcement.
