A 69-year-old woman stands accused of murdering her film-maker sister and snatching a diamond-encrusted Rolex, a case heard at the Old Bailey. Nancy Pexton is charged with killing Jennifer Abbott Dauward at her Mornington Place Camden flat on 10 June. The court heard the victim was found with a neck wound and gaffer tape over her mouth, and the watch she valued so highly was not found on her body. According to prosecutors, Pexton had telephoned her GP after the alleged murder and said she had overdosed. She travelled to the flat by bus, stayed for about an hour, and the sisters spoke by phone at 11:36 BST; she is said to have arrived at 12:45 BST. On 13 June, a neighbour forced entry after concerns about the dog, and Abbott's body was found. The case is presented to jurors as one where there is no evidence the sister was alive after Pexton's visit.
Prosecutors say Pexton was covered in Abbott's blood “from top to bottom” in the wake of the killing, and while in hospital she allegedly asked one of her daughters to take the clothes and either wash them or throw them away. Pexton has suggested she could not recall what happened in the previous 90 minutes, which is described by the Crown as the critical window of the alleged offence.
