Nagpur Explosives Blast: 9 Directors Arrested as Toll Climbs to 19

In Nagpur, a devastating blast tore through the SBL Energy Limited explosives unit, leaving a growing toll of dead and injured. Officials say 19 workers have died and 23 are injured as emergency responders continue to search the site and stabilize patients in nearby hospitals.

Police have so far arrested nine directors of the company, with a case registered against 21 directors and shareholders under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators say more arrests could follow as the inquiry progresses.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a thorough inquiry into the explosion. Early findings by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation and the Defence Information System for Security point to safety lacunae at the Nagpur facility, prompting authorities to tighten oversight and pursue accountability for those responsible.

The disaster has prompted DNA testing of family members to confirm identities of the deceased, whose bodies were charred beyond recognition. As the investigation continues, authorities are actively seeking the remaining accused and examining the plant’s practices, maintenance records, and compliance with safety standards.

With hospital beds stretched and families grieving, officials stress the need for robust worker protections and stricter safety protocols in the explosives sector, vowing to uncover all responsible parties and prevent a repeat of such a tragedy.
