Telangana Civic Polls 2026: 902 Nominations on Day One
First day of nominations for Telangana's urban local polls sees 902 filings across 123 bodies, with Congress leading ahead of BRS and BJP.
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, a total of 902 nominations were filed by 890 candidates for 2,996 wards across 123 Urban Local Bodies in Telangana. The Telangana State Election Commission released the schedule for the conduct of elections in seven Municipal Corporations and 116 Municipalities. The polls will be held on February 11.
Of the 902 nominations, the highest number—382—are filed by Congress candidates, followed by 258 by Bharat Rashtra Samithi and 169 by Bharatiya Janata Party candidates. The remaining nominations are from other parties and independents. Wednesday marked the first day of filing nominations, with the last day set for Friday, January 30, 2026.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The final list of contesting candidates will be published on February 3, 2026. After polling on February 11, counting of votes will be taken up on February 13.
Over 5.3 million voters are eligible across 116 municipalities and seven corporations, underscoring the scale of Telangana’s urban local body elections and the campaign it promises to ignite at the local level.
