A somber atmosphere has fallen over Ghaziabad following the tragic death of a 22-year-old NEET aspirant who died by suicide at his residence on Friday. This heart-wrenching incident occurred just two days before the scheduled NEET UG re-examination on June 21.
The young man, a resident of the H-block in Vijay Nagar, was found dead in his home. Police were alerted Friday morning and found a video message on the victim's phone, recorded moments before his death. In the poignant message, he revealed a six-year-long struggle to clear the NEET examination and expressed deep depression, stating he couldn't achieve his goal. Crucially, he did not hold anyone responsible for his decision. He even showed his study room in the video, remarking he was "thinking of doing something different today" before pointing to a noose.
His family members told the police that he had appeared for the NEET UG exam in May, which they believed "went well," and was actively preparing for the re-examination scheduled for June 21. According to Dharampal, SHO of Vijay Nagar police station, the family described him as a dedicated student who spent hours studying in his room. While the family's statement suggests recent positive progress, the victim's own words in his video message painted a picture of prolonged academic pressure and disappointment, hinting at the immense emotional toll competitive exams can take.
This tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the intense pressure faced by students in highly competitive environments and underscores the importance of mental health support for young aspirants.
