Heartbreaking Tragedy: 6 Students Drown During Ganesh Immersion in Telangana

A pall of grief has fallen over the Sangareddy district in Telangana after six students from the Sirisha Memorial Charitable Trust, an orphanage for homeless and orphaned children, tragically drowned during Ganesh idol immersion on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near Peddakanjarla village, plunging the community into shock and sorrow.

The six young lives lost were identified as Siddharth, a Class X student; Narasimha Raju, a B. Tech second-year student; Sumanth Reddy and Ganesh, both second-year polytechnic students; Uday Kiran, a third-year polytechnic student; and Shyam Kumar alias Shyam, a first-year polytechnic student. The group of eight had gone to a pond, located three kilometers from their orphanage, to immerse a Ganesh idol when the devastating accident occurred.

While two individuals managed to escape, six others were pulled under the water.

Following the incident, the victims were rushed to Prachin Global Hospital in Patancheru, where doctors sadly declared them dead. The Sirisha Memorial Charitable Trust, situated at Shivanagar Crossroads in Peddakanjarla, provides care for approximately 70 students, ranging from Class I to Polytechnic and B.Tech, with admission exclusively for orphaned children.

Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy visited the hospital, expressing his condolences and taking immediate action. He directed officials to ensure the post-mortem examinations were completed swiftly by Thursday morning and personally arranged ambulances, funded from his own pocket, to transport the bodies to their respective hometowns.

It was revealed that two of the deceased hailed from Vijayawada, two from Warangal, and two from Kukatpally.

According to sources, the orphanage had been conducting Ganesh immersion ceremonies at the same pond for the past 15 years without any prior incident, making this tragedy even more poignant and unexpected. The community now grapples with the profound loss and questions surrounding safety during such traditional events.
