Ex-PE Teacher Found Guilty of Sex with Teen Pupil in Southampton Scandal

A former PE teacher has been found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a 16-year-old pupil at a Southampton school, bringing to light a deeply concerning abuse of power. Bronwen James, 30, was convicted of three counts of sexual activity involving the schoolboy at Bitterne Park School following a trial at Winchester Crown Court.

Jurors deliberated for 12 hours before returning their verdict, though they did find James not guilty on one related count. The trial heard how James, described as "flirty," exploited her position of trust.

She began flirting with the student in class, which soon escalated to exchanging messages on Snapchat.

Their inappropriate relationship progressed further when James drove the 16-year-old to Weston Shore in Southampton, where they shared a kiss in her car. This then led to the pair going to James's house, where they reportedly cuddled while watching Wimbledon before moving to her bedroom. This conviction adds to an already troubling record for James.

It can now be reported that she had previously pleaded guilty to further charges involving two separate schoolgirls. These included four counts of engaging in sexual activity and one count of sexual communication with the first girl, and two charges of sexual activity, one count of sexual communication, and the making of an indecent photograph of a child relating to the second girl.

The verdicts were delivered as James remained impassive, looking down as the outcome was announced.

This case underscores the critical importance of safeguarding and the severe consequences when those in positions of authority betray the trust placed in them by students, parents, and educational institutions. The sentencing for all these serious offenses is pending, and the community awaits further justice for the victims.
