NYC Goes Wild for Mayor Mamdani Look-Alike Contest! 🎉

New York City was buzzing with excitement this past Sunday as hundreds gathered near the iconic Washington Square Park for a unique event: a Mayor Zohran Mamdani look-alike contest. The crowd's clear favorite, Amadeo Fusca, took home the coveted $100 prize, thanks to his spot-on resemblance, which included a New York Knicks jersey under a suit, just like the mayor's signature style, and impeccably similar facial hair.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist who began his term as mayor in January, has cultivated a significant following, particularly among younger residents and across social media platforms. His political agenda is largely centered on redirecting government power to support the city's working class. The festive event was sponsored by the social media app, Sonder, adding to its modern appeal.

Nine contestants, many sporting facial hair reminiscent of Mamdani's, showcased various looks inspired by the mayor.

Styles ranged from the brown suit Mamdani wore during his 2025 campaign to red and black patterned ties, dress shoes, dark blue and black suits, and even silver rings. One particularly memorable participant, in a nod to a 2019 rap music video by Mamdani, appeared shirtless but wearing an apron.

The competition's rules were simple yet engaging: contestants were asked to name their favorite pizza. The winner was then determined by the loudest applause from the enthusiastic crowd. While the initial gathering point was within Washington Square Park, organizers were asked to move the event just outside the park's boundaries due to the lack of a permit.

This minor hiccup did little to dampen the spirits of the attendees or the participants.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time Mamdani's look-alikes have convened.

A similar contest was held in Brooklyn in 2025, during Mamdani's mayoral campaign, indicating a growing and playful public engagement with the distinctive politician.
