NHRC Orders Probe: Punjab CM's Wife Accused in ₹5 Cr Rape Case Allegation!
Shocking allegations against Punjab CM's wife surface! NHRC steps in, ordering a probe into claims of a ₹5 crore demand to suppress a rape case. Get the full story and implications for justice.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken a serious step, issuing a notice to the Punjab government and its police chief, directing them to investigate a grave allegation against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's wife. A complaint claims she demanded ₹5 crore to suppress a rape case. This development has sent ripples through the political landscape and raised significant concerns about justice and accountability.
The complaint, lodged by the Legal Rights Observatory, stems from a public statement made by a retired judge. This former judge reportedly alleged that the large sum was sought in connection with a rape case, purportedly involving the Chief Minister's wife. The NHRC has noted the seriousness of these claims, stating that they prima facie appear to be a violation of the human rights of the victim.
The human rights body emphasized the critical need for an impartial inquiry, independent verification of the allegations, and the preservation of all evidence. The complainant stressed that a rape victim's right to justice should remain paramount, unaffected by influence, status, or position. The NHRC bench, presided over by member Priyank Kanoongo, took cognisance of the matter under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
Authorities, including the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, have been given a strict two-week deadline to conduct the inquiry and submit an action taken report. As of now, there has been no immediate reaction from the Punjab government regarding these serious allegations. This unfolding situation highlights the constant vigilance required to uphold human rights and ensure due process in sensitive cases, regardless of the individuals involved.
