Hanuman Ansh: Spiritual Biopic Battles Drishyam 3 at Box Office!
The spiritual biopic "Hanuman Ansh" defied all odds to become a surprise hit. Now, facing off against the blockbuster "Drishyam 3," can it maintain its incredible run? Discover the untold story of its box office miracle!
Vishal Chaturvedi's film "Hanuman Ansh," based on the revered spiritual figure Neem Karoli Baba, has been a quiet sensation at the box office, enjoying a successful run for over two months. Despite its impressive longevity, the film is now encountering significant competition from the recently released "Drishyam 3," which has noticeably impacted its screen presence and daily earnings.
On its 62nd day in theaters, "Hanuman Ansh" garnered Rs 80 lakh from 1,578 shows, pushing its net domestic collection to Rs 327.28 crore and its worldwide total to an impressive Rs 426.51 crore.
Initially, "Hanuman Ansh" faced a tough uphill battle. It premiered on just 300 screens, which rapidly decreased to a mere 30 due to a sluggish opening.
However, a remarkable turnaround occurred in its third week as strong word-of-mouth began to spread.
The film then found its footing, accumulating substantial numbers even while competing with other major releases. This golden period has, however, seen some slowdown following the debut of "Drishyam 3" on October 2. Post-"Drishyam 3"'s release, "Hanuman Ansh" experienced a drastic reduction in its show count, plummeting from an estimated 4,300 to approximately 1,100, though it did see a minor recovery over the subsequent weekend.
What makes the success of "Hanuman Ansh" truly extraordinary is its incredibly modest budget of less than Rs 2 crore, resulting in an astonishing return of 213 times its investment. Producer Anupriya Nagar shed light on the film's challenging journey, revealing that initial expectations were exceptionally low. With an unknown cast and a first-time director, many in the industry doubted its viability.
Nagar recounted,
Even before I came on board, people never believed in the film. They asked how this film would work.
She emphasized that while "Maharajji [Neem Karoli Baba] is the biggest superhero," the general industry sentiment was skeptical. When screen counts dwindled, she was told only a "miracle" could save the film, a miracle that has clearly materialized as audiences have embraced its unique and compelling content.
As of now, the film's digital release schedule remains unannounced, as the makers are yet to finalize an OTT deal.
