Tamil Nadu Bypolls: Will TVK Field Resigned AIADMK MLAs?

The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is buzzing following the Election Commission of India's recent announcement. Bypolls have been officially scheduled for two key Assembly constituencies, Madurantakam and Dharapuram, set to take place on October 6th.

This notification has immediately brought a crucial question to the forefront: will the ruling TVK party offer tickets to the former AIADMK MLAs who resigned their seats to join the new government?\n\nThis situation stems from a significant political realignment. Soon after the TVK-led coalition government was formed, 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs cast their votes in favor of the Motion of Confidence moved by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

Following this, several AIADMK legislators resigned their seats and promptly switched allegiance to the TVK.

Among them were Maragatham Kumaravel from Madurantakam and P.

Sathyabama from Dharapuram, both of whom vacated their respective reserved constituencies.

Other MLAs like S. Jayakumar, Esakki Subbaiah, C. Vijayabaskar, and M.R.

Vijayabhaskar also resigned and joined the TVK, as did Mr. Vijay himself from his Tiruchi East seat.\n\nHowever, only Madurantakam and Dharapuram will see bypolls.

This is because election petitions challenging the results in five other constituencies, including Perundurai, Ambasamudram, Viralimalai, Karur, and Tiruchi East, prevent the Election Commission from notifying bypolls there, as per legal stipulations.\n\nThe focus is now squarely on the two active bypoll seats. P. Sathyabama, who resigned from Dharapuram, has expressed her intent to seek a ticket for the upcoming election.

In contrast, Maragatham Kumaravel, the former MLA from Madurantakam, chose to refrain from commenting on her aspirations.\n\nMeanwhile, the opposition AIADMK has made its position clear. Former minister R.B.
