Two Kuwaiti power and water desalination plants were damaged by a drone attack from Iran, causing significant material damage and the shutdown of two electricity generating units. There were no deaths or injuries, according to the Electricity and Water Ministry.
The ministry said the attack knocked two generation units offline and caused major damage to both facilities. The ministry posted the update on X, underscoring that the disruption is substantial but not life-threatening.
Iran’s army had previously stated it was targeting aluminum industries in the UAE and U.S. military infrastructure in Kuwait, according to the official IRNA news agency. In the wider Gulf region, the UAE reported its air defences were actively engaging missiles and unmanned threats, though details on the origin of the attack were not disclosed.
Kuwait’s government has not reported any casualties and authorities say they are monitoring the situation closely while working to restore power and water services. As energy infrastructure comes under pressure, regional observers warn of broader risks to stability and energy supply in the Gulf.
