Ukraine has dramatically escalated its drone campaign against Russia, culminating in a significant strike on a major oil refinery in the Krasnodar region. The assault on Sunday, June 28, 2026, resulted in a massive blaze at the Slavyansk-na-Kubani refinery and tragically led to the deaths of at least two individuals, according to Russian authorities.
The intensified long-range attacks target Russian military industries and energy facilities, aiming to deplete Moscow's revenue streams funding its five-year-long invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strikes on Telegram, stating, "Our long-range sanctions' reached two oil refineries in Russia." While Russian authorities reported casualties from the Slavyansk-na-Kubani incident, Mr. Zelenskyy also claimed a second refinery in the Yaroslavl region, approximately 700 km from the Ukrainian border, was hit during the same nighttime attacks.
