Puducherry is gearing up for the April 9 assembly polls, with Congress unveiling a 16-candidate list that includes DPR Selvam from Mannadipattu and P Karthikeyan from Oosudu. The move underscores the party’s bid to refresh its lineup ahead of a tightly fought contest.
The 30-seat assembly has long been a palace of shifting loyalties and regional power plays. The rise of the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) in 2011, led by N. Rangasamy after his split from the Congress, reshaped the political landscape. In that watershed year, the AINRC, allied with AIADMK, won a commanding share and formed a government on its own. Since then, the AINRC has remained a central force in Puducherry politics, a role that has helped the party withstand changes in the national and regional scene.
