Meerut witnessed a vibrant display of devotion and state support on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally welcomed Kanwariyas by showering them with flowers. Standing alongside Meerut Lok Sabha MP Arun Govil and other public representatives, the Chief Minister honored the faith of these Shiva devotees on the auspicious Dashami Tithi of the holy month of Shravan. In a grand gesture, not only were flowers showered from the stage, but a helicopter also scattered rose petals on pilgrims along the Kanwar route.
Addressing the devotees in Meerut, CM Adityanath extended a heartfelt welcome and greetings to the millions of Shiva pilgrims participating in the sacred journey from various states, including Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. He reassured them of the Uttar Pradesh government's full preparedness to ensure their service and protection throughout the yatra.
The Chief Minister lauded the Kanwar Yatra, describing it as an "unparalleled example of devotion, dedication, social and national unity and harmony." Before his public appearance, Mr. Adityanath personally surveyed the Kanwar Yatra from a helicopter, observing the massive procession. He acknowledged the profound devotion of pilgrims from across the state and issued directives to administrative officers, emphasizing the importance of ensuring proper arrangements for their security, respect, and facilities.
He highlighted that the "entire western Uttar Pradesh reverberated with the chants of Har-Har Bam-Bam by Kanwar pilgrims" carrying holy Ganga water for Jalabhishek at Shiva temples. CM Adityanath also underscored the meticulous security arrangements made by the administration, with vigilance maintained by sector magistrates, zonal magistrates, and police personnel across all levels, from zone to beat, to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage.
