Harry Brook Eyes IPL Comeback After Ban: "A Great Competition!"

England white-ball captain Harry Brook, who faced a two-year ban from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after withdrawing from the 2025 season, is now eyeing a potential return to the lucrative T20 tournament. Brook was initially acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 6.5 crore in the 2024 IPL mega auction but did not participate in the subsequent season for reasons other than injury.

The talented batsman, who famously notched an IPL hundred for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2023 season, will be eligible to re-enter the IPL auction in 2028. Speaking to Cricinfo, Brook shared his thoughts on the league, stating, “Yeah, definitely. The IPL is a great competition and it’s a great experience, and when you go over there, you leave a better player. It’s a very good competition to be a part of, and it’s something that I’ll definitely think about in the future.”

This statement marks a slight shift from his previous stance in June, where he had emphasized his unwavering commitment to England cricket. Following the retirement of England Test captain Ben Stokes, Brook had told the media, “I’ve committed completely to England cricket. I’ve said that I don’t want to play any franchise cricket bar the Hundred. Everything I want to do is to play cricket for England, and whatever I do on and off the field is to try and perform as well as I possibly can for England.”

While Brook still asserts that his primary focus remains on playing for England, his recent comments suggest a more open mind regarding his long-term involvement with the IPL. He reiterated to Cricinfo, “Who knows what the future holds, but yeah, and like I said, I’m completely focussed on playing as much cricket as I possibly can for England, and that is my one and only priority.” The cricketing world will be watching to see if this English star makes his anticipated return to the IPL in 2028.
