Modi and Carney Push India-Canada Trade Expansion in New Delhi
Modi and Carney push for stronger trade, minerals deals, and a CEPA in New Delhi as ties warm after a difficult year.
India and Canada firmed up agreements on critical minerals and uranium ore supply as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian PM Mark Carney pledged to deepen trade and security cooperation. A memorandum of understanding on mining and processing of critical minerals was signed, and a $2.6-billion deal for the supply of 22 million pounds of uranium ore was agreed for 2027-2035.
They also outlined plans to boost two-way trade, aiming for a milestone of $50 billion by 2030 and to finalise a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement within the year. Carney, visiting India for the first time in eight years, supported stronger trade and defence ties as both leaders described a refreshed, forward-looking partnership.
Modi highlighted the goal of unlocking full economic potential and said the CEPA talks would move forward soon, while Carney praised the momentum and stressed the importance of stability and collaboration in a transforming global landscape.
