Brixton shootings: police probe possible link to stabbing
Police investigate whether a Brixton drive-by shooting and a nearby stabbing are connected as four people hospitalised.
Police are examining whether a drive-by shooting on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton and a separate stabbing nearby are connected. The gun attack occurred at about 01:15 BST on Saturday, with four people taken to hospital. A 25-year-old man is in a life-threatening condition, and a 33-year-old man was critically injured in the stabbing that followed about an hour later around 700 metres away on Acre Lane.
Witnesses described a car approaching the area and firing seven shots, with families who had been gathered for a barbecue at Southwyck House briefly scattering as chaos unfolded. Forensics teams were at the scene as investigators gathered debris and possible ballistic material to understand the sequence of events.
The London Ambulance Service treated four patients at the scene, sending two to a major trauma centre and two to a local hospital. At this stage, no arrests have been made in connection with either incident, and detectives are pursuing all lines of inquiry to determine whether the two attacks are linked.
Police have acknowledged the parallel timing of the shooting and stabbing, and officers are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward as they piece together what happened in a neighbourhood already rattled by the events. The area, previously used for community barbecues and informal gatherings, has seen a sharp focus on public safety as investigators work to establish the facts and ensure the community’s safety going forward.
