Ex-England Star Raheem Sterling Charged After Lamborghini M3 Crash

Former England international Raheem Sterling is preparing for a court appearance next month, facing charges of dangerous driving and possessing nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation. The charges stem from an incident in May when his Lamborghini crashed into motorway barriers.

The 31-year-old footballer, previously making appearances for Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie, was arrested following the single-vehicle collision on the M3 southbound, near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire, on the morning of Thursday, May 28, 2026. Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Sterling was released on bail after his arrest, pending further enquiries.

He is now due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on September 15.

Initially, police had also suspected Sterling of "driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs," but this particular charge was not included in the formal proceedings. A source close to Sterling, speaking to BBC Sport in May, stated there was "no proof" of drugs in his system.

The same source also highlighted the personal struggles the player has reportedly faced, mentioning "an extremely tough couple of years" and that he had been made to "feel worthless" and "forgotten about."

Sterling has been without a club since his departure from Dutch side Feyenoord at the end of last season, a team he joined in February on a short-term contract after mutually agreeing to leave Chelsea. Chelsea had acquired Sterling from Manchester City in 2022 for £47.5 million, following a successful seven-year stint at City where he secured four Premier League titles, five League Cups, and one FA Cup.

Prior to that, he also played for Liverpool and had a loan spell at Arsenal in 2024.
