Delhi woke to a tragedy as Deepti Chaurasia, 38, the daughter-in-law of Kamal Kishore, a prominent pan masala owner, died by suicide at her Vasant Vihar home. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan and was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
A diary recovered from her room reportedly references a dispute with her husband, Harpreet Chaurasia. The entries reportedly included phrases such as 'no love and trust.' Investigators are examining the diary's context within the couple's life, while Deepti's brother has alleged torture and extramarital affairs by Harpreet. The family has denied any wrongdoing.
Deepti and Harpreet married in 2010 and have a 14-year-old son. On the day of the incident, Harpreet was at the gym; upon returning, he reportedly found his wife unresponsive. He discovered her on the second floor of their home. Police said seven to eight domestic workers were present in the house at the time.
The case has drawn attention to the private life surrounding a business family and has amplified discussions about domestic tensions within influential households. Police investigations are ongoing as officials piece together events leading up to the tragedy.
