TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee Attacked in Hooghly; Chaos Erupts Near Police Station

Things are heating up in West Bengal again. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee has claimed he was attacked and injured by a mob right outside the Chanditala police station in Hooghly district. This incident happened on Sunday while he was visiting the station to protest the recent arrests of party workers following the Assembly elections.

According to the MP, a group of people waving black flags surrounded his delegation, shouting slogans like "thief" before things turned physical. Banerjee says he was struck on the head during the commotion and was seen holding a cloth to a bleeding injury. He didn’t hold back his frustration, staging a sit-in protest on the spot and accusing the police of standing by while he was targeted by what he calls "BJP-sponsored" attackers.

This isn't an isolated event. Just a day earlier, senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee faced a similar situation in Sonarpur, where he was allegedly roughed up by locals while visiting families affected by post-poll violence. The police have already made five arrests in connection with that specific attack after reviewing video footage from the area.

The political blame game is in full swing. While the TMC points the finger at the BJP for orchestrating these confrontations, the BJP has denied any involvement. Instead, they claim the incidents are a spontaneous outburst of anger from local residents who are fed up with TMC leaders. Adding to the drama, a video has surfaced showing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly scolding a hospital CEO, which the BJP has been quick to share online.

To keep things from spiraling further, a large contingent of police and central forces has been deployed to the area. For now, the situation remains tense as both sides stand their ground.
