Television Guitarist Richard Lloyd Fights Cancer, GoFundMe Launched!
Music legend Richard Lloyd of Television is battling aggressive bile duct cancer. A GoFundMe is live to help cover medical and living expenses as the community rallies.
Richard Lloyd, the iconic founding guitarist of the legendary New York band Television, has been diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a serious and aggressive form of bile duct cancer. This news has sent a ripple of concern through the music community, with fans and fellow musicians quickly rallying to support the rock pioneer.
A GoFundMe campaign, initiated by Lloyd's friend and bandmate Sean Seymour, went live over the weekend and has already seen significant traction, surpassing its half-way goal. The campaign aims to raise $80,000 to alleviate the immense financial burden posed by his medical treatments and living expenses. Lloyd is currently unable to tour, which for a working musician, is not only a loss of his passion but also his primary source of income.
His wife, Sheila, has taken on the role of his full-time caregiver, further impacting their financial situation.

Richard and his wife, Sheila, are now facing serious financial pressure. Sheila is Richard's full-time caregiver and is unable to work because Richard needs constant support."
Lloyd's legacy in music is profound. He co-founded Television in 1973 in New York City alongside Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell. The band quickly became one of the most influential guitar-driven acts of all time, with their seminal 1977 album Marquee Moon often cited as one of the greatest albums ever recorded.
Even after Television, Lloyd continued to craft music, releasing seven solo albums, including 2018's The Countdown .
