Police in Kuruppampady have arrested a suspected Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Rathon Islam, 33, for allegedly staying illegally in India. Islam, who hails from the Rajashahi district of Bangladesh, was apprehended at Asamannur, Kothamangalam, where he had been working at a local plywood factory.
According to authorities, Islam is believed to have entered India by illegally crossing an international border without possessing any valid travel documents. Following his unlawful entry, he reportedly traveled through various parts of the country before settling in Kerala for work. During the investigation, police successfully recovered documents that confirmed his Bangladeshi citizenship, solidifying the grounds for his arrest.
Islam has been formally charged under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, highlighting the serious implications of undocumented residency. This incident is not isolated; earlier this month, Palarivattom police also apprehended ten other suspected Bangladeshi nationals for similar offenses, found to be residing in the city without proper documentation. These arrests underscore an ongoing drive by security agencies to verify and monitor individuals for illegal stay across various locations.
