Pongal Gift Hampers Roll Out Across Tamil Nadu, Dindigul Leads
Tamil Nadu begins distribution of Pongal gift hampers—each with rice, sugar, sugarcane, dhoti/saree, and ₹3,000 cash—launched across districts including Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga, Thoothukudi, and Kanniyakumari.
Distribution of Pongal gift hampers began in Dindigul, Theni and Sivaganga districts on Thursday. Each hamper contains one kilogram of raw rice, one kilogram of sugar, one sugarcane, a dhoti and saree, and ₹3,000 in cash. The scheme is part of a Tamil Nadu government welfare package to help families celebrate Pongal, and the hampers will be distributed over five days till 12 January 2026 through fair price shops.
In Dindigul district, Minister for Rural Development I. Periyasamy inaugurated the scheme at the Sithayankottai town panchayat fair price shops and the Sitharevu panchayat of Athoor Union, in the presence of district collector S. Saravanan. A total of 6.94 lakh card holders in the district would benefit.
In Theni district, MP Thanga Tamil Selvan, Periyakulam MLA K.S. Saravana Kumar and Theni Collector Ranjeet Singh inaugurated the scheme at a fair price shop in Theni Allinagaram Municipality. A total of 4.30 lakh card holders in the district would benefit.
In Sivaganga district, Sivaganga Collector K. Porkodi inaugurated the scheme at a fair price shop in Sivaganga Municipality. A total of 4.19 lakh card holders in the district would benefit.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launches the distribution, with authorities confirming that the gifts will be distributed over five days, ending on 12 January 2026.
Ministers also inaugurated distribution in Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts.
