Eric Dane, the actor renowned for Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has died at 53 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His representatives confirmed the death on Thursday, noting he passed less than a year after publicly revealing his ALS diagnosis and asking for privacy for his family.
The family statement said: “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world. Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.”
Dane, born November 9, 1972, in California, built a career with early guest roles in series like Saved by the Bell and X-Men: The Last Stand, before his breakout as Dr. Mark Sloan, aka McSteamy, on Grey’s Anatomy from 2006 to 2012 and again in 2021. He later played Cal Jacobs on HBO’s Euphoria, a character he portrayed through 2019 onward. He also starred as Tom Chandler in The Last Ship, continuing to act while championing ALS awareness across his work and public appearances.
His family and fans remember him for his warmth, talent, and dedication to raising awareness about ALS, a cause he carried with grace throughout his career.
