Delhi IGI runway mishap: Akasa Air and SpiceJet collide during taxiing
A minor collision at Delhi's IGI airport damaged both aircraft; passengers disembarked safely as DGCA investigates.
Two planes were involved in a minor collision on the runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi around 2:15 pm, near Terminal 1. A SpiceJet aircraft, SG-124, which had just arrived from Leh, collided with a stationary Akasa Air plane, QP-1406, as it was being taxied out for its Hyderabad-bound flight.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said the SpiceJet aircraft struck the Akasa Air plane's horizontal tail surface, and the resulting impact damaged the SpiceJet right winglet and Akasa's HTS. The Akasa aircraft was on the apron after pushback when contact occurred, and both flights were grounded as a precaution while the investigation proceeds.
Passengers and crew were safely disembarked, and ground teams were making alternative arrangements to fly the affected passengers to Hyderabad. An Akasa Air spokesperson emphasized that safety and security remain the highest priority, and authorities have informed the relevant agencies as the inquiry begins. The air traffic control officer involved and SpiceJet pilots were de-rostered as part of the process while investigators examine the incident.
