Disney's Zootopia 2 posts a record $556M global bow, led by a $272M China take and $156M over the Thanksgiving frame.
Zootopia 2 kicked off the holiday movie season with a record-breaking global opening, pulling in $556 million worldwide since its Wednesday debut. In North America, the film grabbed $96 million over the weekend and $156 million for the five-day Thanksgiving frame, signaling strong momentum as studios head into the final stretch of 2025.
It shattered international benchmarks for an animated feature, marking the highest international opening ever for an animated movie and landing among the top global debuts of all time. The overseas performance helped push the film past other tentpole titles, with a standout showing in China that contributed a record $272 million of the total.
While Zootopia 2 was roaring, Wicked: For Good remained a solid counterpoint, earning $62.8 million over the weekend domestically and bringing its North American total to about $270.4 million, with worldwide receipts around $393 million. The Thanksgiving frame gave theaters a rare bright spot amid a year that has faced a few dark patches for box office.
Industry analysts called the results a momentum builder for the home stretch of 2025, with new releases like Avatar: Fire and Ash and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 still to come. Disney’s animated sequel, recalling the original's popularity, features Judy Hopps and a new round of adventures for anthropomorphic animals.
