Judge Tosses Diddy Lawsuit: Dawn Richard Vows to Refile Key Claims!

A federal judge has largely dismissed the high-profile lawsuit filed by singer Dawn Richard against Sean "Diddy" Combs. The ruling, made public on Monday, stated that most of Richard's allegations of emotional and physical abuse, including claims of groping, were not brought within the required timeframe under New York's statute of limitations.

Judge Katherine Polk Failla's decision emphasized that the court's ruling did not address the merits of the allegations themselves, which she described as "execrable" if true. Instead, the dismissal was purely based on the legal window for filing such claims, which had expired more than a decade ago for many of Richard's assertions.

However, the door isn't entirely closed for Richard. The judge indicated that she could still pursue one specific allegation against the hip-hop mogul in state court. Arick Fudali, an attorney representing Richard, has confirmed that the singer intends to refile her primary claim using New York's gender-motivated violence act. Fudali reiterated their commitment to fighting for Richard "until justice is achieved."

When the lawsuit was initially filed in September 2024, representatives for Diddy expressed shock and disappointment, questioning why Richard continued to work with him for so long if the alleged actions were true. Richard was a member of Combs' Bad Boy Records groups, Danity Kane and Diddy – Dirty Money, between 2004 and 2012.

This legal development follows Richard's testimony last year in a separate New York trial where Combs faced prostitution-related charges, of which he was convicted, though he was acquitted of more serious sex trafficking charges. During that testimony in Manhattan federal court, Richard recounted witnessing Combs beat his girlfriend in 2009 and claimed he later threatened her. The current dismissal underscores the complexities of legal timelines in cases involving historical allegations.
