Emergency services and hospital staff were placed on high alert as casualties flooded into facilities across the region. The tremor caused panicked evacuations in crowded neighborhoods and urban centers, with residents recalling how furniture and debris toppled from shelves and walls. Authorities urged people to stay away from damaged structures and to follow official guidance as aftershocks continued to rattle the area.

The day’s events follow reports of earlier tremors near Ashulia, just north of the capital, where a smaller 3.3-magnitude quake had been recorded. Residents are now bracing for more aftershocks and the ongoing task of assessing damage, providing shelter to those displaced, and delivering essential relief to affected families. The response underscores the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity and the urgent need for safe evacuation plans and rapid reconstruction efforts.
