A Pakistan drone dropped arms consignment was recovered in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Republic Day. A joint team of the Border Security Force and the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation in Paloora village, Ghagwal, late Friday night after receiving information about suspected drone movement from across the border. The search team found a packet wrapped in yellow tape along the banks of a stream and, with the help of a bomb disposal squad, opened it to reveal two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds and a grenade. The operation was ongoing as officials provided updates about the recovery.
The recovery underscores the vigilance of security forces as they tighten surveillance around potential terror plots during a period of heightened security around Republic Day celebrations. Security agencies have intensified patrols and monitoring in border areas and adjacent towns, focusing on potential drone routes and cross-border movement to prevent any disruption to scheduled ceremonies.
Following the initial recovery, authorities continued scanning the area around the Ghagwal sector, extending the search to nearby streams and foothills to rule out additional consignments or cache points. The incident has prompted a review of drone interdiction protocols and rapid-response drills among BSF and JK Police units in the region.
