Hyderabad's police SIT has served notices to former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) asking him to appear for questioning in the ongoing case into alleged phone tapping during the previous BRS regime. The notice, issued under Section 160 CrPC, set a tentative 3pm Friday appearance, but KCR cited preoccupations with nominations for the February 11 municipal elections and requested a fresh date.
The SIT has indicated it could question him at his residence in Nandinagar, or at Jubilee Hills Police Station, if he chooses to appear voluntarily, or at any other location within Hyderabad city limits. KCR even suggested conducting the examination at his farmhouse in Erravelli village, arguing it is his place of residing, but the police declined to move the venue away from ordinary residence rules.
The investigation focuses on alleged instructions to intelligence and police officials during the BRS era regarding surveillance activities. With the February 11 municipal elections approaching and nomination deadlines on January 30, the timing adds another political layer to the case. The SIT's extensive questionnaire signals a detailed inquiry into the chain of command and decision-making during the reported period.
