ShareChat Eyes $400M IPO Next Year After Profitability Boost!
India's social media giant ShareChat, parent to Moj & QuickTV, is eyeing a $400M IPO next year! Discover how operational profitability and micro-dramas are fueling its comeback.
Bengaluru-based social media giant Mohalla Tech Pvt., the parent company behind popular platforms like ShareChat, Moj, and QuickTV, is reportedly gearing up for a significant move: an Initial Public Offering (IPO) next year, targeting an impressive $400 million. This ambitious plan signals a major turnaround for the company, which has successfully navigated challenging times to emerge operationally profitable.
The proposed public listing comes on the heels of the company achieving operational profitability in the first quarter of the financial year beginning April 2026. This significant milestone follows years of strategic cost-cutting measures, workforce adjustments, and a concerted effort to refine its business model. ShareChat, like many other venture-backed Indian startups, had to conserve cash after the funding boom during the Covid-19 pandemic tapered off.
ShareChat's chief financial officer, Manohar Charan, confirmed the positive shift in their financial health, stating, “Our unit economics has now turned positive. We will aim to list over the next four or five quarters.” While these IPO plans are still preliminary and subject to change, the company’s current trajectory suggests strong momentum.
The company's annual revenue has soared past Rs 1,000 crore and is currently running at an annualized rate of up to Rs 1,400 crore, demonstrating a robust growth rate of over 30%. This financial resurgence marks a successful pivot away from non-performing products and a renewed focus on ensuring that revenue generated from users consistently outweighs the cost of serving them.
A key driver of ShareChat's remarkable recovery has been the explosive growth of micro-dramas. These short, serialized stories, often running for as little as 60 seconds per episode, have captivated audiences and emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments within India's digital entertainment market. ShareChat estimates its platforms reach approximately 65 million monthly micro-drama viewers, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total Indian market for this format.
The micro-drama industry itself is booming, with venture capital firm Lumikai projecting a compound annual growth rate of 31%, expecting it to reach a staggering $4.5 billion by 2030. With strong backing from investors like Lightspeed and Tiger Global, ShareChat's journey from prudent cash conservation to IPO readiness is a compelling story of resilience and strategic innovation in the competitive social media landscape.
