Kyiv Under Relentless Attack: Deadly Strikes Claim Lives, Modi Pleads for Peace

At least 12 people have been tragically killed and 20 injured, including two children, in a relentless barrage of Russian missile and drone strikes that pounded Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and its surrounding region overnight. The devastating attacks saw critical infrastructure hit, with six of the casualties identified as railway workers from the state-owned Ukrzaliznytsia company after a depot in Kyiv was struck.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed on Tuesday morning that nearly 350 dedicated rescue workers had been toiling through the night, battling the aftermath of what he described as a "significant number of jet drones and ballistic missiles." The strikes ignited fires in three districts of Kyiv, leaving a trail of destruction. In a particularly tragic incident, four more lives were lost in the nearby town of Boryspil when a residential building suffered a direct hit.

Russia, in its official statement, maintained that its "massive strike using high-precision weapons" had targeted Ukraine's military and energy facilities.

The Kremlin also reported one fatality in Russia's western Belgorod region, attributing it to Ukrainian strikes.

These overnight attacks mark the sixth consecutive day of sustained Russian drone and missile assaults on Kyiv, a strategy that appears designed to exhaust the city's defenses and population. The renewed violence unfolds just a day after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a key ally of Moscow, made a powerful plea to Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring an end to the conflict.

Speaking at a security summit in Kyrgyzstan, Modi emphasized,

This isn't the first time Modi has urged for peace. Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Indian leader, whose nation relies heavily on discounted oil from Russia, has repeatedly called on Putin to de-escalate and seek a peaceful resolution to the devastating war.

His recent appeal underscores the growing international pressure for an end to the prolonged conflict that continues to claim innocent lives and destabilize the region.
