The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the stand of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on a plea by the Enforcement Directorate challenging his acquittal in two summons-related cases connected to the excise policy. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued notices to the Aam Aadmi Party leader and posted the matter for hearing on April 29.
The ED argues that Kejriwal did not appear before the agency despite summons in the excise policy case, and contends that the trial court’s January 22 acquittals were improper. The two ED petitions challenge those orders in separate proceedings.
The court’s move places Kejriwal back in the legal spotlight over investigations tied to the now-scrutinised excise policy, a matter that has repeatedly dominated political discourse in the national capital. The ED’s challenge underscores ongoing judicial review of the agency’s summons and the corresponding acquittals in these cases.
Meanwhile, AAP supporters have framed the ED’s petitions as part of a broader political struggle, while the party maintains that the legal process must run its course. The April 29 hearing will elaborate the ED’s case as the court weighs whether to uphold the agency’s challenge to the acquittals.
