Emotional Connect: BJP Fields Slain Aide's Mother for Nandigram Bypoll
In a poignant political move, BJP nominates Hansirani Rath, mother of CM Suvendu Adhikari's slain PA, for the Nandigram bypoll. This decision stirs emotions and political debate in West Bengal ahead of the October 6 elec
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a significant candidate for the upcoming Nandigram assembly by-election: Hansirani Rath.
She is the mother of the late Chandranath Rath, who served as the personal assistant to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
This nomination carries a strong emotional resonance, as Chandranath Rath was tragically shot dead just three days before Suvendu Adhikari took his oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. The decision to field his mother is seen by many as a move to connect with voters on a deeply personal and emotional level, potentially framing the election as a quest for justice.
The Nandigram seat became vacant after Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent BJP leader, successfully won both the Nandigram and Bhabanipur constituencies in the 2026 Assembly polls, eventually relinquishing the Nandigram seat. This bypoll is therefore crucial for the BJP to retain its stronghold and for the opposition to challenge it.
In addition to Nandigram, another by-election will be held for the Rejinagar seat.
For this constituency, the BJP has nominated Sarkar, a former district BJP president.
Both of these key by-elections are scheduled for October sixth, and political observers are keenly watching the developments in West Bengal.
