Shivamogga Headmistress Wins National Teacher Award 2026! 🏆

Ratnakumari S., the dedicated in-charge headmistress at the Government Higher Primary School in Samatagaru village, Shivamogga, has been bestowed with the prestigious National Teachers' Award for 2026. She stands out as the sole recipient from Karnataka among 48 exceptional educators nationwide, and will receive her award from the President in Delhi.

With over three decades of teaching experience, including 25 years at her current school, Ms. Ratnakumari is renowned for her innovative teaching techniques. She firmly believes in actively engaging schoolchildren through various campus activities, making learning both effective and enjoyable. Her approach emphasizes strong English learning, aiming to equip students so they don't feel disadvantaged when transitioning to English-medium high schools.

Speaking about her achievement, Ms. Ratnakumari humbly credited her team, the unwavering support of parents, villagers, and departmental officers for this national recognition. The community's profound appreciation for her dedication is evident in a past incident where villagers staged protests to successfully prevent her transfer from the school. This strong bond highlights the deep trust and respect she has cultivated.

The school itself is a testament to community spirit and educational commitment. Serving 60 students, most of whom come from neighboring villages, it operates with four teachers and one guest faculty member. Thanks to generous donors, the school has also arranged two vans to ensure students have reliable transportation to and from school. A unique aspect that builds immense confidence among parents is that Ms. Ratnakumari's own children, as well as those of her colleagues, have studied at the same institution.
