Amaravati has won a new legal status as the state capital after the Parliament passed the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Amendment Bill 2026. The bill sealing Amaravati as the capital was celebrated by Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who joined farmers from the Amaravati region to mark the occasion. Naidu called the development a historic milestone and said Amaravati is now secured beyond doubt and change has become permanent.\n\nNaidu and his wife, Nara Bhuvaneshwari, were hosted by senior ministers and leaders from JanaSena and BJP as they visited Uddandarayunipalem, the village where the foundation stone for the capital was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 23, 2015. The couple participated in a traditional Deepa Aarathi and were blessed by Vedic scholars before the soil and sacred water from the foundation event were reverentially placed on the platform.
