The Union Cabinet has approved Delhi Metro's Phase VA expansion, a 16-kilometre extension spread across three new corridors, at a project cost of ₹12,015 crore. When completed, the phase will push the total operational length beyond 400 kilometres and serve more than 65 lakh riders daily.
Phase VA will bring three corridors into the network: RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (linking the airport line with the blue line), Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. The project comprises 13 stations, with around 10 of them underground. The development is part of the broader objective to expand Delhi Metro as the city’s mobility needs grow and to complement ongoing infrastructure projects. Six other extensions are already under construction, underscoring a sustained push to widen Delhi’s metro footprint beyond the current network.
Officials emphasize that the new corridors will significantly improve key interchanges and intra-city travel. The RK Ashram Marg corridor will connect the airport line with the Central Secretariat station and then to Indraprastha on the blue line, enabling smoother transfers for riders and better integration with existing lines. The Kalindi Kunj extension is expected to offer direct connectivity to the Gurugram region for commuters coming from Noida and Faridabad, potentially easing road traffic and reducing travel times. The broader aim is to cut congestion, lower pollution, and enhance accessibility to important sites including government precincts and major employment hubs.
The project is slated for completion in about three years, with the overall expansion reinforcing Delhi Metro’s position as one of the world’s largest urban rail networks. As ridership continues to climb, Phase VA is seen as a crucial step in delivering faster, more reliable transit for millions who rely on the system every day, while strengthening regional connectivity across the National Capital Region.
