Six Dead as Swiss Postal Bus Bursts into Flames; Arson Suspected

Six people were killed and five injured when a postal bus erupted into flames near Kerzers in Switzerland, just west of Bern, on Tuesday evening. The bus was travelling from Düdingen to Kerzers in the Fribourg canton and was about to reach its final stop around 6:25 p.m. when the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. Emergency crews battled the blaze, leaving behind a charred shell of the bus.

Police opened an arson investigation after reports in local media that a person doused themselves with gasoline onboard. A cantonal police spokesperson said there were indications a person was the cause of the fire, but authorities could not confirm this and stressed that the investigation is ongoing. Medics, including several ambulances and a helicopter, transported three injured people to hospital, while two others were treated at the scene. The victims' identities have not yet been released.

The incident occurred in Kerzers, about 12 kilometers west of Bern. The cause remains unclear, and authorities said the intervention would continue through the night as investigators work to determine what happened and whether there is any ongoing danger to the public.
