NDA Win Buzz in Bihar Triggers Last-Minute Market Surge
Indian stocks rebound as Bihar election buzz boosts hopes for policy continuity; Sensex climbs, Nifty ends higher after a volatile session.
Indian benchmark indexes staged a late-day comeback after a shaky session, as traders priced in a possible NDA mandate in Bihar’s 2025 elections. The Sensex jumped 533 points off an intraday low of 84,029 to end at 84,563, while the Nifty50 reversed early losses to finish at 25,910, up 31 points in a closing burst.
Sentiment turned on hopes that a NDA victory would ensure policy continuity and a sustained capex cycle, helping offset weakness from global markets. Traders cited a relief rally in heavyweights and selective buying across sectors as supportive.
Sector rotation showed IT and metal stocks lagging, while PSU banks, healthcare and energy trimmed losses or posted gains. The day’s moves underscored a cautious optimism that domestic catalysts could outweigh some global headwinds.
Global cues remained a headwind, with tech earnings weakness in the US and hawkish Fed commentary weighing on risk appetite, but domestic catalysts helped limit the downside.
Looking ahead, investors will watch Bihar election results for signals on the ruling alliance's strength and read earnings guidance for the next quarter. While there is optimism, caution persists about rich valuations and global volatility.
