“Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups”, the much-anticipated gangster drama starring Yash, has raked in a substantial Rs. 243.59 crore net in India and Rs. 334.50 crore worldwide by its twelfth day. While these figures seem impressive, the film, which opened with a massive Rs. 101.10 crore net on its first day, has experienced a significant decline in theatrical demand.
After a reported 95% drop by the end of its first week, daily collections have tapered off, with the film now needing approximately Rs. 6.41 crore to hit the Rs. 250 crore domestic milestone.
In stark contrast, the low-budget devotional film “Hanuman Ansh” has quietly become one of the year's most surprising box office success stories. This sleeper hit has showcased an unusual “long-tail” run, steadily building momentum and defying initial expectations. On its 30th day, “Hanuman Ansh” collected a remarkable ₹16.50 crore net in India, pushing its total domestic net to ₹99.38 crore.
The trajectory of “Hanuman Ansh” is particularly notable.
While “Toxic” relied on a massive pan-India release and a huge opening day, “Hanuman Ansh” slowly garnered audience interest, with its collections surging significantly from its third week onwards. It even outperformed “Toxic” on Day 28, despite running on fewer shows.
The film has achieved one of the biggest fourth-week runs in Hindi cinema, collecting around ₹61 crore net in that week alone, and is now poised to cross the coveted ₹100 crore net mark domestically without any reported overseas component.
This fascinating box office showdown highlights the unpredictable nature of audience reception.
While “Toxic” achieved strong initial numbers, its rapid decline suggests that the film struggled to sustain engagement. “Hanuman Ansh”, on the other hand, illustrates the power of word-of-mouth and genuine audience connection, turning a modest start into a significant triumph.
The differing fortunes of these two films offer a compelling look into the diverse factors that drive success at the Indian box office.
