Youth Roar in Bengaluru: CJP Demands Education Minister's Resignation Over NEET Crisis
Hundreds join the Cockroach Janata Party protest in Bengaluru, demanding accountability for NEET exam irregularities. Students and families seek justice amid a nationwide outcry.
The bustling Freedom Park in Bengaluru witnessed a significant gathering on Sunday as hundreds of citizens, led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), converged to protest alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. The demonstration, part of a nationwide campaign, called for the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Among the passionate protesters was Rahul Dayalu, an engineer from Mysuru, whose 10-year-old daughter was the driving force behind his journey to Bengaluru. “My daughter is 10 now. I do not want her to face what students who appeared for NEET faced following the irregularities and paper leak. The government needs to be accountable to the youth and the future of this country,” Mr. Dayalu expressed, highlighting the deep-seated concerns of parents.
Mr. Dayalu shared a poignant story about his niece, who scored an impressive 98% in CBSE and had high hopes for her NEET results. However, the widespread reports of irregularities devastated her. "Like her, there are lakhs of students. Their families are broken seeing their situation. I have seen my niece cry every day since the news broke," he recounted. He questioned the government's ability to ensure a fair re-examination, asking, "The government may conduct the examination again, but what about the mental trauma? What is the guarantee that the examination will go well the next time?"
The protest in Bengaluru, held amid tight security and even heavy rains, saw students, unions, and supporters proudly calling themselves 'cockroaches.' The CJP's nationwide movement has gained traction, with renowned educator and activist Sonam Wangchuk also participating in a similar protest in Hyderabad and supporting the cause. Wangchuk emphasized that the country faces not just a fiscal deficit but also a "trust deficit" due to such issues.
The CJP's campaign has extended beyond Bengaluru, with protests already held in major cities including Delhi, Pune, Lucknow, Amritsar, and Hyderabad. In Amritsar, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke led a protest, urging students and youth to participate in a "Delhi march" on June 20. The protesters vowed to remain in the capital until Minister Pradhan steps down, intensifying the pressure on the government to address the students' grievances and restore faith in the examination system.
