Greater Noida: A three-year-old boy died after slipping into a water-filled pit along the road in Dalelgarh village while visiting his maternal grandfather for a temple feast. He was playing nearby around 11 am on Saturday when he disappeared and was later found inside the pit; he was taken to a hospital where he died on arrival. The tragedy unfolds as residents have long flagged water accumulation in the area.
Days before the incident, members of the Dalelgarh Vikas Samiti had submitted a letter to the Greater Noida Authority on February 4, drawing attention to persistent waterlogging along the village road. The letter noted that water tends to collect after the nearby drain overflows, and it urged proper barricading and warning signage to mitigate accident risks. Krishna Kant, president of the Samiti, said the family had come to attend a 45-day religious gathering at a temple when the accident occurred.
The case has sparked anger among locals who allege negligence by local authorities in addressing the drainage and safety concerns, a sentiment echoed by residents after a previous incident in Sector 150, Noida. The boy’s parents, Anil and Anjali, and his elder sister survive him, and the family had been in Dalelgarh to participate in the temple feast.
Community members and safety advocates are calling for immediate action to prevent similar tragedies, including better drainage management, visible barricades around water-logged areas, and clear warning signage to protect pedestrians, especially children, during festival times and religious gatherings.
